Knowledge

The virtue of knowledge is profoundly emphasized in both the Qur'an and Hadith. In Islam, knowledge holds a central position, and the success of a believer, both in this world and the Hereafter, is deeply connected to its pursuit. Acquiring knowledge is considered an obligation for every Muslim, male and female.

The Virtue of Knowledge in the Qur'an:

1. The First Revelation: The first command in the Qur'an emphasizes the act of reading and learning:

> "Read in the name of your Lord who created."

(Surah Al-Alaq, 96:1)

This underscores that knowledge is foundational to faith and practice.

2. Elevation of Those with Knowledge:

> "Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees."

(Surah Al-Mujadilah, 58:11)

This verse highlights the honor and elevated status of knowledgeable individuals.

3. Scholars as Witnesses of Allah’s Oneness:

> "Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge."

(Surah Aal-e-Imran, 3:18)

This shows the esteemed position of scholars who bear witness to Allah's unity alongside angels.

The Virtue of Knowledge in Hadith:

1. Seeking Knowledge is an Obligation: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

> "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim."

(Sunan Ibn Majah, 224)

2. The Path to Paradise:

> "Whoever treads a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make the path to Paradise easy for him."

(Sahih Muslim, 2699)

3. Scholars are the Heirs of Prophets:

> "The scholars are the heirs of the Prophets. The Prophets do not leave behind dinars or dirhams; they leave behind knowledge."

(Sunan At-Tirmidhi, 2682)

4. The Best Charity:
